Phobias
Snake phobias. Spider Phobias. Cockroach phobias. Why do these animals carry the stigma of the word “phobia?” Many of you are answering: Because they are scary!
For some reason, there are several catalysts to fear that are common to many people. The above animals are some. If you gather a crowd of people, a large percentage of them will be afraid of snakes.
Have they every had a bad experience with a snake. Not likely, as snakes are mostly timid creatures themselves. But try telling that to someone afraid of snakes.
There is also a strong percentage of people with a fear of tight places (Clausterphobia) and heights (Acrophobia). Many of these people have also not had a bad experience with either tight places or high places. And that. . . . . sums up the nature of fear. Fear does not always make sense.
That’s why hypnotic intervention is so effective with phobias. Hypnosis uses imagry and relaxation to put leverage on your emotions. When someone is frightened, the feeling of being scared is the only thing that makes sense. With hypnosis, relaxation techniques can be employed AND that emotion can be used to redirect the fear.
